South Dakota is a pretty flat state elevation wise. So when it comes to the slopes scene, the state doesn't score very well, however, there is one hot spot that only the locals know about. While all the action is going on in the front of Mt. Rushmore, very few know about the hot scene that goes on behind that rock sculpture of our former presidents.
Presidential Pike was a black run that was founded by the sculptors in the winter of 1927. Sketchy Craig needed to get off the mountain and needed off fast. He had no time to wait for the lift to get to the top of the mountain. So with some extra wood and framing rods, Sketchy Craig made some makeshift skis and headed around the back of Mt. Rushmore. Sketchy Craig made it down the mountain in record time. To this day, the name Sketchy Craig is still brought up in the bars of Keystone when that first snowfall hits Mt. Rushmore.
